It happens so frequently with us that we occasionally have water tank leaks. It is a time-consuming process to contact someone and request that they repair the leak in the water tank. Do you need to keep an eye on him all the time to see if he needs anything? Is the work completed? And a lot more.
To fix a concrete water tank leak, follow the procedures below:
1. Take measurements of the tank
The first step in repairing concrete water tank leaks is to measure the whole tank. Take note of the tank’s size and depth as well. You may simply measure the tank using a tank liner to get the measurements you want. If you are purchasing a tank liner online, make certain that it is rated as food-grade.
2. Drain the tank
Before fixing the leak, it is important to clean and drain the water tank. You must drain the water and inspect it for any cracks or contaminants. Remove any trash and broken concrete. Allow enough time for the tank to dry completely. Make sure you’re not chiseling straight into the cracks.

3. Repairing the first layer
Brush a coating of the concrete binding agent onto the cracks and minor sections after the tank has dried. Make certain that the breaks are secured from the inside of the tank. Dry agents will take five to ten minutes to dry properly. Make sure you don’t touch it; else, your handprints will make it seem unpleasant in the end.
4. Prepare the cement mixture
You must now prepare a mixture that will be applied to the tank walls. To do this, combine one-part hydraulic cement with three parts water. An electric drill can be used. Ensure that your cement solution is wet and dirt-like in consistency. It should not adhere to your hands, and you can test it by making little cement balls to see whether the cement is adhering together. This is a vital consideration when repairing a water tank leak.

5. Now we’ll fill the cracks with cement
After you’ve prepared the cement solution, it’s time to fill the cracks with cement. You must properly compress the cement into the cracks using a trowel. After entirely filling the gaps, we must scrape the cement surfaces to make them smooth with the rest of the concrete tank area. It is also possible that you may need to remove extra cement from wherever it has been put. Allow an hour for the cement to dry and settle completely.
6. Insert the liner into the tank
If your tank is not drinking water, the previous procedure is completed. If it has to be filled with water, that’s not the end. We need to apply epoxy to the tank’s external wall. The liners must be installed in the center of the tank, on the inside. Press the liner on the concrete until it attaches. Now you must unfold the liner and distribute it evenly on the bottom of the tank.
7. Final step
This is the final and most important step in fixing the leak. Drill holes in the concrete walls and support the edges of the liner. To complete this task, use a hammer drill. Fill the hole with epoxy. Allow the epoxy to completely set so that you have a flawless finished wall over the tank. Now it’s time to fill the tank and put an end to the leak.
